Norfolk Sports Academy is happy to share a fantastic 1st year with British Athletes being supported by the NSA workshop leaders and its partners.
During the scheme the athletes have received specialist workshops, professional support services as well as a financial grant to support their competitive sports progress in the last year.
Norfolk Sports Academy athlete Iona Lake has had her best season to date winning the 3,000-metre women’s steeplechase at the World Championship Team Trials at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, as well as the English Championships in Bedford.
She was ranked the third British woman for the event ahead of the World Championships held in London this August. Unfortunately, her time did not meet the qualifying standard of 9 minutes 42 seconds. Undeterred, she continued competing, reducing her personal best time from 9.56 to 9.48. She is now just 3 seconds from the Commonwealth Games qualifying time of 9.45 which will be held in Queensland, Australia next April. Lake will have one final attempt at this standard on Tuesday 29th of August whilst competing in Croatia.
“I can’t thank the NSA enough for the help, support and guidance it has given me this past year. The workshops they put on over the winter as well as social events helped with my motivation and allowed me to meet and engage with other aspiring athletes. The great sports facilities at the UEA meant I had a base for all my training needs in a very supportive environment.”
Norfolk Sports Academy has worked closely with the Young Norfolk Sports Academy & some athletes progressed from one to the other over the last year and NSA athletes proved to be inspiring mentors for the YNSA athletes.
The Young Norfolk Sports Academy as also still open for applications and is suitable for ages 15 -18. You can apply online here - http://www.ynsa.org.uk/
